Fork & Field

Once upon a time, there was a bar in Mid Calder called the Torphichen Arms. Then along came PG Taverns, the geniuses behind The Jolly Botanist, with a mandate to shake things up. A £475,000 investment in conjunction with Star Pubs & Bar, has seen no expense spared, with an extensive renovation transforming the Torphichen into a high-end gastropub now known as Fork & Field. Good food is at the heart of the gleaming new pub’s ethos, fuelled by an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients and seasonal produce. As part of the refurbishment work, the kitchen area has been increased by 60%, while the number of covers it can accommodate has doubled to 94. Coupled with a generous selection of cask ales and the addition of a conservatory, decking and six letting rooms, and the renovation project has transformed the bar beyond recognition. As anyone who can recall The Spiders Web – precedent to The Jolly Botanist – will attest, PG Taverns don’t do things by halves. Fork & Field promises to be another culinary triumph. Come for the beer, stay for the great food and friendly vibes.

Seven of us had dinner here tonight for one of our birthdays. All of the food was exceptionally good and the service was excellent. Amongst us we tried various starters, then the fish and chips, steak pie, burger, sausages & mash and the fillet steak roast dinner. There wasn't one single complaint and the empty plates spoke for themselves. Will definitely be back.

Fantastic! Extremely friendly and attentive staff. Food was delicious and great portion sizes. A large starter to share, two mains and four pints of Guinness came to £48, very happy. Would definitely recommend.
