The Lighthouse

Since opening in 1999, when Glasgow served as Britain’s City of Architecture and Design, The Lighthouse has faithfully carried that mantle. Today the centre, housed on Mitchell Lane, serves as a visitor attraction, exhibition space and venue rolled into one. The Lighthouse cleverly dubs itself as a beacon for the creative industries in Scotland and it’s a fair assessment: all year long, an ever-changing roster of events and exhibitions keep the public turning up in their droves to be entertained, educated and enthralled. Housed in the Charles Rennie Mackintosh-designed Glasgow Herald building, The Lighthouse occupies a stunning space that links to the Mack Tower, with its breath-taking views of Glasgow. The first level is occupied by Gallery One and Review Gallery, where an ever-changing programme of exhibits charts the many facets of art and design and reveals their power to transform lives and places for the better. You’ll find more exhibitions on level two, this time curated by Architecture and Design Scotland. Four floors in total include events spaces that are ideal for corporate functions and wedding receptions, with The Lighthouse’s spectacular Viewing Platform occupying top spot.
