Edinburgh Zoo

RZSS Edinburgh Zoo is packed with fun and un-zoo-sual things to do. Edinburgh Zoo is a gateway to the natural world where people can experience nature, learn about the challenges facing wildlife and discover how we harness the unique power of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland family – our teams, supporters and partners – to save animals from extinction. You can spend your day learning about brilliant birds, mischievous meerkats, super strong sun bears and more with daily keeper talks! Get closer than ever to monkeys, lemurs, wallabies and pelicans in our walkthrough habitats or at our daily animal-handling sessions. Watch a Sumatran tiger walk right over your head in Tiger Tracks, our amazing glass viewing tunnel. And if you prefer smaller critters, you’ll enjoy Wee Beasties where you can find reptiles, amphibians and insects. While you’re here, why not enjoy a bite to eat, explore several play areas and take home a fantastic zoo-venier from the gift shop. It’s more fun at the zoo so prepare for an adventurous day out exploring 82 acres of beautiful parkland full of incredible animals and experiences.

An enjoyable day out with the animal displays well laid out. The panda and penguins are both definitely worth visiting.

Great zoo with a good variety of animals. Probably got the closest to a Tiger I have ever been. The penguin area was excellent and although they do have koalas and pandas we saw neither the first due to illness the second due to it hiding somewhere. The only downside is it is very steep and I would advise walking straight to the top and then seeing it all on the way down. £4 to park with limited parking that was filling up by midday on a Saturday.

An absolutely amazing display of Chinese lanterns. What a fantastic evening - the Giant Lanterns of China are a must to see before the end of February. Fantastic, beautiful illuminations.

Edinburgh has one of the best zoos I have ever visited. There is an amazing selection of very obviously well loved and cared for animals. Be warned it (like most things in Edinburgh) the zoo is on a hill. So if you have any mobility issues please plan ahead. Have fun in know my family and I did.
