In 1868, when James Steele started a business in the Pillars, specialising in all things caffeine-related, I wonder if he realised how successful his business would be. In 1900 the company became known as Braithwaites Tea and Coffee Merchants. After the demolition of the Pillars in 1932, Braithwaites moved to Castle Street and has remained there ever since. It is one of Dundee’s few remaining original family-run businesses. Braithwaites will do their utmost to find you the perfect cup of coffee. They have a large selection of coffees starting with a unique espresso blend at £5.20/500g up to a Glapagos Island at £12/500g. They also stock various certified coffees (Rainforest Alliance, Organic), and even one from the Galapagos Islands. Braithwaites can supply you with coffee makers from around £5.00 up to the latest Espresso Machines from £100.00 onwards, in order to give you the perfect lattés and cappuccinos at home. A variety of teas are also available and with lots of assorted hardware, from teapots to espresso cups and hand held whisks, whatever you need for your favourite cuppa can be found here.
