Founded in the 17th Century as a physic garden growing medical plants, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is recognised as one of the finest gardens in the world, and is the perfect place to relax and escape from all the noise and pollution of the city. The ‘Botanics’ now extends across four sites - Edinburgh, Benmore, Logan and Dawyck. Stretching over 70 acres, there is plenty to see and do at The Botanics. As a visitor you can take part in a range of activities from volunteer garden ranger activities, to storytelling sessions, or even just having a wonder at the sheer beauty and diversity of nature. As well as sightseeing and relaxing, education is a major part of the work here. The Botanics is inclusive to all ages and will appeal to everyone from visitors, to students studying plants. Look out for the Queen Mother Memorial Garden, which has proved very popular since opening last year.
