Awarded Best Newcomer 2009 by The List and praised by food critic Joanna Blythman for their traditional French home style cooking, the sister restaurants L’Escargot Bleu and L’Escargot Blanc have certainly made their mark on the Edinburgh restaurant scene.  Conveniently located in the city centre at Broughton Street and Queensferry Street, both restaurants offer a friendly bistro atmosphere: wooden floors and a French radio softly playing. What is unique about these bistrots though is a simple but imaginative concept - combine French culinary skills with local Scottish produce.  At lunch the blackboard offers a range of dishes which change every day. There is also a pre-dinner menu and an à la carte menu. House wines are also available by the glass or carafe. Make sure you leave room for dessert though, from a deeply satisfying warm chocolate gateux served with golden beetroot sorbet to a classic crème brulée.  If you are at l’Escargot Bleu, why not pop downstairs to L’Epicerie shop where a wide range of wines, cheese and charcuterie are on offer, as well as  fresh bread and viennoiserie, in house pre-prepared meals and an amazing range of quality cookery utensils.
