The Royal Mile’s famous shop, recently re-launched, now has a number of Nicolson’s own innovations alongside supplying fantastic traditional kilts and accessories.  The high quality kiltmakers owner, Gordon Nicolson, has over twenty-eight years experience in crafting kilts that are second to none. If you are after an original garment, any tartan is available in this popular store. For a totally unique piece, tartan design is also available to accommodate that extra special occasion.

Nicolson’s own metalworker, Norman Milne, crafts Sgian Dubh’s from scratch on site which are tailored to the needs of the customer.  Any size or shape is available - materials range from classic stag horn to hand carved silver mounts.  Kilt pins and sporrans can also be handmade in store to match individual kilt designs and requirements.

Nicolson’s prides itself on maintaining its Scottish heritage by sourcing all of its stock from craftspeople in Scotland, whether made on site or elsewhere.

If you are just having a browse or making family history, it is worth taking a trip downstairs to see the free Jacobite Exhibition, which traces the history of tartan in Scotland.  The range of fine collected pieces of historical worth will inform and entertain the true Scot as much as any tourist.

For those who want to get dressed up in Jacobite attire and have their picture taken to remember the experience, a spanking new photography studio is situated in-store.  Lifetime memories are a snatch at only £25 for the full costume and photograph service.  Ladies and men’s outfits are available in three styles.

Kilts are available for hire starting at just £45, and Nicolson’s make kilts in the Edinburgh University tartan for graduation ceremonies.  The exclusive homeware range will keep many an interior lover happy, with tartan furniture and throws.   Furnishings can be designed and made in any tartan. Handbags for women are available from £45 and scarves from just £12.50.

If you are just passing through, or want to send a gift to a friend abroad, Nicolson’s provide a shipping service to make sure the Scottish tradition can carry on all over the world. A whole new range of unusual products and exciting in-store delights will welcome the traditionalist and encourage tourists to embrace the Scottish tradition.

Much more than just a kiltmakers, Nicolson’s provides a full range of fun, exciting, historical and educational services: there’s certainly something for everyone here.

I was looking about to buy an outfit and stumbled across this little gem of a shop on the royalmile surrounded by all thats bad in scottish gifts
I was shown how the kilts were made and what makes a good kilt this made me feel confident to purchase straight away in the knowledge that I was getting the best quality of kilt at a very competitive price . i got to meet the kiltmaker who was going to make my kilt and this made the whole experience so personal and intimate. nothing was too much bother and they were happy to answer all my questions and give me guidance on what I should and shouldn't wear

In a word brilliant!!!!! would happily recommmend Prices very good to P Macpherson
