Downstairs near Blythswood Square, this unique café-cum-gallery is one of the best daytime places for cappuccinos, soups and sandwiches in the city centre. Full of character, it’s designed as a refreshing change ftom corporate coffee bars. A popular haunt with office workers and bicycle couriers alike, there are comfy sofas where you can lounge and listen to the eclectic sounds on offer while enjoying the temporary exhibitions in the gallery space. Set up by Glasgow Art School graduates, it began as an escape from their jobs with multinational coffee chains, and has grown over the years into a smart, fun place to eat. The crowning glory here is the sandwiches, boasting such names as Firewalker or the Man From Iran. Many of these have started out as sandwiches customised to customers’ requests, so if you have a special sandwich request, you might find it immortalised on the board.
