Konaki is an unassuming but very popular Greek taverna, perfectly located midway between the city centre and the heart of the West End, This place is packed with diners lured by the mountainous portions of the most authentic Greek cooking around, at the cheapest prices. Unlike most of the city’s Greek restaurants, the owners of Konaki hail from the island of Crete, the walls being decorated with scenes from the island. The menu includes seafood, chargrilled kebabs, and glorious slow-cooked meats which flake perfectly from the bone. If you are unfamiliar with Greek cuisine you should opt for the meze platter. There’s an interesting wine list, showcasing unique wines from independent vineyards in the Greek islands. This helps the Greek party nights go with a swing, with traditional Greek dancers showing you the moves and inviting you to join in!

This was the first time I have been to Konaki though I had heard a lot of good things about it from family and friends. It is my boyfriend's favourite restaurant so he took me there for our valentines meal.

The taverna looks very welcoming and the décor is full of lovely little authentic touches such as murals and mosaic pillars. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout the night and the food was simply superb!

We were brought complimentary olives and bread and oil to nibble while we looked through the menu. I decided on the kleftiko while my boyfriend opted for the pastichio. When the meals arrived they had a lovely home-cooking character to them; generous portions and simple but pleasing presentation. Best of all they tasted absolutely brilliant! I have never had such tender lamb in all my life, if it were any softer it would have been liquid! =) We washed down the dinner with a lovely bottle of Greek red wine.

Overall I really enjoyed our night there and will definitely be returning to try more of the delicious dishes on offer in their extensive menu. 10/10 from me! =D

I would just like to say thank you to Konaki. I booked my friend's hen night there and we had a wonderful time. From the traditional dancing and plate-smashing to the meal itself, everyone of us enjoyed the experience immensely. Thanks again... Highly recommended.
