With nearly 40 years of business under its belt, L’Ariosto is Glasgow’s oldest Italian restaurant, and after a visit to this long-standing Mitchell Street restaurant, it’s easy to see why it has stood the test of time. Staff are friendly and warm, and the décor gives the impression that you’ve just walked into a beautiful Italian courtyard, complete with balconies, slated roofs and small ornamental windows. L’Ariosto has a dedicated head wine waiter, who’s able to suggest a suitable bottle to complement the oncoming meal. To start, try the Asparagi alla Parmigiana (Pan-fried asparagus spears wrapped in Parma ham and served in a light lemon butter sauce with fresh shaved parmesan flakes), or the Cozze alla Crema (steamed West Coast mussels in a light white wine, garlic and cream sauce). From the main courses, there’s a wonderful Vitello Marsala con Funghi (Escallops of veal, pan-fried in olive oil & wild mushrooms and finished in Marsala wine & cream). Seafood lovers are well catered for, with a range of traditional Italian specialities, including the delicious Cappesante e Gamberoni (King prawns & fresh scallops pan-fried with white wine, garlic, olive oil & lemon juice and served with a mixed salad). Each dish is perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, but aside from the sublime food, L’Ariosto is the perfect venue for dinner dances. From Wednesday through to Saturday nights, the restaurant is alive with a vibrant party atmosphere, with L’Ariosto’s resident duo "Limited Edition" supplying musical entertainment.
