Nanakusa is the most recent addition to Glasgow’s Japanese restaurant scene, its opening having been delayed while they located the perfect Japanese chef; such is this establishment’s dedication to authenticity. Little wonder then that they won the List’s Newcomer of the Year on opening, and are still featured in the Hit List. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, the decor chic, modern and minimal, with wall panel ambient LED lighting under Victorian cornicing, the perfect setting in which to sample the exquisite food. The menu extends impressively beyond Sushi and Tempura to incorporate such authentic Japanese offerings as Teriyaki and Yakitori dishes, each prepared with the freshest ingredients imaginable. A range of Teppanyaki (iron plate grill) offerings are popular among diners. A bento box, a beautiful laquered box containing a selection of choices from the menu, is sure to impress devotees of traditional Japanese food, and win over newcomers to the cuisine. Diners are welcome to test the chef and request items not on the menu, which he will be happy to oblige by cooking.
