Manchester Cathedral
Manchester Cathedral is a great day out. There has been a church on the site for a thousand years or more. On a visit to Manchester Cathedral you will be able to see treasures from the past; the ‘angel stone’ - discovered by Victorian restorers, which dates from Anglo-Saxon or early Norman times; the finely carved choir stalls – some of the finest in the country; and the spectacular modern windows, including the Fire window, which recalls the partial destruction of the cathedral during the bombing raids of the Second World War. Learn about Manchester’s hidden past in an interactive exhibition in the Cathedral Visitor Centre, directly opposite the entrance to the Cathedral. Downstairs you can enjoy a coffee or a full lunch in the unique café, set in the shadow of the evocative stone arches of Manchester’s only surviving medieval bridge. There’s plenty to see, and do, and hear The choir performs daily, and they also host major concerts. The cathedral is often filled with the sounds of musicians rehearsing for worship or concert performance. To find out about regular worship and the programme of events including concerts, visit www.manchestercathedral.org Manchester’s Cathedral is a star of both big and small screen. You might recognise the features of Manchester Cathedral as they have appeared in a number of TV series such as Cracker. In 2007, Sony infamously used the interior (without permission) for one of its battle games, Resistance: Fall of Man, so the kids as well as the adults might like to see what the building is really like. Make time to visit Manchester Cathedral and Visitor Centre - it’s free for all the family.
