Ning Restaurant
Ning is a relaxed, independent restaurant that successfully combines the style and charm of the Orient and Manchester’s bohemian Northern Quarter. Located towards the top of Oldham Street, it’s a little out the way but definitely worth the short walk. Styled on the trendy noodle bars that are a feature of modern Asian cities, it’s South East Asian fusion cooking with the focus on delicious Malay home-cooking specialities. The food is fresh, halal and MSG-free and more than half of the available dishes can be ordered as vegetarian or vegan. The friendly waiting staff serve an exquisite, affordable selection of Malaysian and other South East Asian curries, rice, noodles, soups, salads and light snacks, with contemporary fusion choices. The decor is chic and contemporary oriental with bold bespoke wallpaper and Malay batik prints in the bar area. The menu is short, simple, and easy to follow, offering a mixture of Thai and Malay dishes. They offer a £10 two-course deal from a selection of dishes on the a la carte menu, as well as three set menu options. The a la carte menu focuses on genuine home-style Malaysian, Indonesian and Thai cooking with some inventive fusion recipes from the Head Chef Norman Musa. They also stock unusual South East Asian beers and great-value perfect-combination wines at under £15 per bottle. Ning is available for private hire and also offers an outside catering service - and even holds regular Malay classes and team-building events. Whichever service you choose, you’ll be tasting the authentic flavors of South East Asia at Manchester’s only Malaysian halal restaurant.
