Red Onion does Scottish cuisine in a contemporary setting, but that doesn’t even begin to describe the lure of this wee gem of a restaurant. The award-winning eatery is the brainchild of chef and proprietor John Quigley, who made a name for himself in London’s West End before going on to work as a private chef for stars like Bryan Adams and Guns N Roses. Now he’s settled into Glasgow, where his culinary skills are eagerly lapped up by the expectant diners who flock to Red Onion on an evening. The restaurant, which is open from 12pm every day of the week, specialises in grilled steaks, cooked to perfection to preserve all their natural flavour, as well as seared scallops and indulgent desserts. The presentation is spectacular, with each perfectly formed dish encapsulating a little piece of Scotland at its very best.
