Craigievar Castle

Craigievar Castle looks like something from a fairy tale, which may be why it’s rumoured to have inspired Walt Disney’s creation of Cinderella’s iconic castle. Pale pink in colour and complete with medieval turrets it’s a building that’s rich in history. The grounds are open all year round during the hours of daylight, while the castle can be entered between April and September - there’s no electricity in most of the castle, meaning that all artefacts, objects and art must be viewed only by natural light, bringing an extra level of authenticity to the visit, but some limitations. Unlike similar attractions, you can’t wander around by yourself as guided tours are mandatory and there’s good news for National Trust Members who get in for free. The castle can be hired for special events and is understandably popular as a wedding venue. Whatever the reason for your visit, an enchanting welcome awaits.

This is a National Trust property so if you are not a member then this can be a pricey visit Adult £14.50. Saying that we still enjoyed our visit. You enter the castle at 10 minute intervals to ensure social distancing. Guides in soon rooms to explain the history of the castle which was nice. A little hard to find but if you are in the area well worth a visit.

Craigievar is everyone's image of a typical Scottish castle. The guide John took us on an amusing and informative tour of this beautiful homely castle with its windey spiral stairs. Lovely rooms, not in the style of stately homes but for everyday living.
