The Falkirk Wheel

Whether you’re interested in engineering, mechanics, boating, or just looking for a grand day out, the Falkirk Wheel is a must-see attraction in Scotland. A rotating boat lift, built in 2002, the Falkirk Wheel connects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. Visiting the site of the Falkirk Wheel entails more than just seeing the Wheel itself, though; boat trips run daily every forty minutes or so throughout the afternoon, and the Visitors Centre offers detailed information and diagrams about the Wheel’s history and mechanisms. If you fancy something a bit livelier, get to the site’s Water Activity Zone, where visitors can splash around in a water-walker, or ride out onto the canal in a canoe. On top of a Children’s Activity Zone, Cycle Hire and Woodland Walks, the Falkirk Wheel offers more fun than you’ll be able to fit into a single day. Take a break between your boat trip and canoeing to enjoy a delicious lunch in the Falkirk Wheel Café or just treat yourself to some tea and scones. Whatever your age, the Falkirk Wheel is a great day out for the whole family.

A nice place to go with the family, friendly staff and a lovely location. I have been a lot with my partner, I would recommend the wheel to people to visit.

Really enjoyed the wheel, and thoroughly enjoyed the walk from Falkirk High along the canal too! Stopped for tea and lunch, and found both to be tasty and filling. Lots of movement on the water, and seeing the wheel turn was a real highlight. Lovely.
