Intu Metrocentre
The Intu Metrocentre is a shopping complex located
in Gateshead, close to the River Tyne. Boasting
over 340 shops and occupying an area of some
two million square feet, the capacious retail centre
is the largest of its kind in the whole of the UK. The
Metrocentre comprises five main malls: Blue, Red,
Yellow, Green and Platinum. As well as housing
countless independent boutiques, the complex is
anchored by huge Debenhams, House of Fraser
and Marks & Spencer department stores. It is
also serviced by a Public Transport Interchange.
Further facilities include a 12-screen Odeon cinema
(including several 3D screens and an IMAX) and
an indoor amusement arcade featuring a ten-pin
bowling alley, a dodgems track and a soft play area.
If fashion is all you’re interested in, you’ll be pleased
to note that many popular retailers have a presence
here, including USC, River Island, H&M, Next, BHS,
New Look, French Connection, All Saints, Laura
Ashley, TK Maxx, French Connection, JD Sports
and G-Star Raw. There’s also an Apple Store,
an Argos, a Waterstones and a Boots. The vast
majority of eateries are located in the Metrocentre
Qube, located in the Yellow Mall. If you’re hungry or
parched, head on down and take your pick from the
likes of Wagamama, Zizzi, Gourmet Burger Kitchen,
Pizza Express, Nando’s, Frankie and Benny’s, Yo!
Sushi, KFC, Wetherspoons and Handmade Burger
Company. Additionally, there’s a Metro Retail
Park located to the west of the Metrocentre. This
complex includes such large stores as Barker and
Stonehouse, Next Home and Toys R Us. The new
MetrOasis retail area, which opened in late 2012,
includes further options for food and drink, including
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, a Toby Carvery and a
drive-thru Starbucks. Spoiled for choice? Not half!
