CAFES, BARS & CLUBS
Located on Seel Street, within a
capacious Georgian townhouse,
Brooklyn Mixer is one of
Liverpool’s hippest nightspots.
With three floors playing a
diverse mix of musical genres,
the bar is characterised by a
feel-good Brooklyn sensibility,
setting it apart in a city teeming
with drinking dens. Sidle up to
the bar as resident DJs keep the
dance floor rocking and peruse
the extensive menu. If you’re a
beer drinker, you’ll be astonished
by the number of bottles on
offer; as you’d expect, many
of the beverages are imported
from the States. Terrific options
include Anchor Steam, Goose
Island Honkers Ale and Sierra
Nevada Pale Ale. A selection
of craft and European beers
– including Punk IPA and the
fantastic Italian Menebrea – are
also available. Naturally, there
are numerous fruit beers and
ciders, in addition to the requisite
stockpile of spirits. The cocktails,
meanwhile, are some of the
tastiest in Merseyside. Choose
from the tantalising Honey Boo
Boo (Bombay Sapphire with
fresh orange, lemon juice and
honey) or the ominous-sounding
Draught of the Dead (Goslings
151 rum, Old J Spiced rum,
fresh orange and pineapple
juice, a splash of passionfruit
and a flaming top of icing sugar).
You’ll have to contend with your
decisions the next morning, of
course, but after a memorable
night in Brooklyn Mixer, you
won’t care a jot. Life is for living,
after all, so go on: live a little.
