The Clifton Sausage – also known as “The
Sausage” – is a place of pilgrimage for sausage
connoisseurs everywhere. But it’s not all about
the pork, for the restaurant also specialises in
good old fashioned classic British cooking, with a
down to earth and high quality approach to food.
Set in a grade II listed building with wonderful
views over the city and the countryside beyond,
the canopied frontage of The Clifton Sausage
provides an attractive welcome. Somerset of
course is well known for its pig farming and
here you’ll find at least six types of sausage on
the menu at any given time, including a home
cooked vegetarian option. These are served
with the traditional accompaniment of mashed
potato or mashed potato with chopped spring
onion (known as Champ). The dish is then
smothered with onion gravy, or toad in the hole
(the English stalwart, consisting of a Yorkshire
pudding base). The atmosphere in the restaurant
is relaxed, comfortable, yet effortlessly stylish,
with personable and friendly service. Choose from
brunch, bottomless brunch for a boozy laid back
morning into afternoon, a hearty Sunday lunch, a
good value set dinner or the standard a la carte
menu. Children are bound to adore these bangers
and mash and are catered for with their own set of
dishes from which to choose. The Clifton Sausage
makes a great venue for your celebration; groups
can take advantage of the party menu offering two
or three course set menus. Keep your sweet tooth
happy by rounding off your meal with one of the
filling and delicious traditional puddings such as
a sticky toffee pudding, or rhubarb crumble – and
for those who prefer something savoury there’s a
selection of local cheeses. With events throughout
the year too, there’s plenty to entice you to The
Clifton Sausage.
