Located right on the border between England and
Scotland, Gretna Gateway is the ideal place to
break up a long journey. If you’re stopping off on
your way to a retreat in bonnie Scotland but aren’t
sure what to do on your trip, you’re in luck because
there is a Visit Scotland Tourist Information Centre
on site, so it’s easy to find out about the abundance
of things to see and do in the local area and
throughout Scotland. There is an array of shops,
all at outlet price in the village too. Browse around
their numerous stores, exploring everything from
Bench to Thorntons. Once you’ve tired yourself
out from all the bargain-hunting, wind down over
a meal in one of the many restaurants situated
in the village. Not only does the village encase a
vast multitude of great shops and eateries, they’re
also a popular venue for events. Romantic and
historic Gretna and Gretna Green are known the
world over for their weddings (up to 4,000 or more
weddings per year, in a village with a population of
less than 4,000), which still take place on a daily
basis at various wedding venues including the
registrar’s office and The Old Blacksmith’s Shop
Visitor Centre. The historic city of Carlisle is just
eight miles down the road and the World Heritage
Site of Hadrian’s Wall and the stunning scenery
of The Lake District are a mere 30-60 minutes’
drive away. Dumfries and Galloway, often referred
to as Scotland’s best-kept secret, offers a unique
blend of fabulous scenery, glorious beaches,
walks and cycling, and is also nearby. As well
as being a great place to stop off on a journey,
Gretna Gateway Village is a great destination for a
holiday, or just a fun day out with the family.
