Digital is an expansive nightspot with sophisticated
sound and light systems and eclectic weekly club
nights. The club, which first opened in 2005, is
known as the most technically-advanced and
forward-thinking club and live music venue in the
north. Yes, it’s that good. Founded by Aaron Mellor,
Digital was originally christened “The Fabric of the
North”. The club went on to collect a trophy cabinet
of awards Including UK Best Club SoundSystem
(BEDA Awards), UK’s No1 Large Club (DJ MAG
Awards), Club of the Year North (Mixmag) and was
ranked 11th Best Club in World by a DJ MAG poll
of 1,000 of the World’s best DJs. It’s played host to
a history of dance music with Sasha, Jamie Jones,
Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, Erol Alkan, Seth Troxler,
David Guetta, Fatboy Slim, Deadmau5, 2 Many
DJs and many more playing in the shadow of its
trademark Pixel Line.

The O2 is a cavernous music venue housed in a
refurbished bingo hall. The venue hosts rock and
pop acts as well as popular weekly club nights.
The club opened its doors in 2005 following a £4
million refurbishment, with Sunderland noiseniks
The Futureheads kickstarting the celebrations.
The two-level auditorium has a capacity of almost
2,000, with a mixture of standing and seating.
There’s also the 400 capacity O2 Academy2, a
standalone gig venue which also acts as a second
room for club nights and dance events. It’s perfect
for showcasing new talent from the local area
and breaking new acts on the touring circuit. O2
Academy Newcastle is also home to the city’s
biggest student party on a Friday night, whilst
the weekend satisfies fans of alternative sounds,
with a mash up new tunes and classic tracks from
across the rock, metal and punk spectrum.
