Payne & Son is a traditional jewellers specialising
in 20th century and contemporary silver. It also
does a fine line in bespoke commissions. The store
was founded in 1790 and after eight generations
is still run by members of the same family. John
Payne opened a silversmiths and jewellers in
Wallingford in 1790, with other shops opening
in Abingdon 1825, Banbury 1842 and Tunbridge
Wells 1870, all run by various members of the
Payne family. George Septimus Payne inherited
the Abingdon shop in 1874, but 14 years later
decided to move to Oxford. Payne & Son started
trading in Oxford 1889 and has been at 131 High
Street ever since. The 7th and 8th generations
of Paynes now run the family business. Today,
Payne & Son specialises in giftware including
christening gifts, cultured pearls, gold and silver
jewellery, and is a major stockist of Georg Jensen.

The Body Shop believe there is only one way to be
beautiful – nature’s way. The company constantly
seek out wonderful natural ingredients from all
corners of the globe, bringing their customers
products designed to enhance their natural beauty
and express their unique personality. The store’s
origins can be traced back to 1970, when Anita
Roddick visited “The Body Shop” housed in a car
repairs garage in Berkeley selling naturally-scented
soaps and lotions. Six years later, Roddick opened
a similar shop in the UK, using the same business
name and cosmetic lines. The Body Shop’s
Clarendon Centre store has an extensive range of
skin and hair products for both men and women.
They also have a large selection of cosmetics
and gift sets. Open from 9am - 6pm Monday to
Saturday and 11am - 5pm on Sundays, The Body
Shop is vehemently against the testing on animals,
and strives to source all products ethically.
