Peoples Palace & Winter Gardens

The People’s Palace & Winter Gardens are among Glasgow’s most iconic venues. Set in Glasgow Green, the popular social history museum is home to an array of beguiling historical artefacts, prints, paintings and photographs, offering a stunning insight into the metier and mores of Glaswegians through the centuries. These include Billy Connolly’s famous Banana Boots, a meticulous reconstruction of the traditional Glasgow ‘single end’ (a single-roomed house within a tenement memorably memorialised in the novel No Mean City), ’Dancing at the Barrowlands’, an exhaustive display paying homage to Glasgow’s most beloved music hall, and The Steamie, a display which gives an insight into the equipment used to get clothes clean prior to the advent of electrical gadgets. Just to bring things up to the 21st century, there's also interactive computer displays and films throughout the year. The adjacent Winter Garden, meanwhile, is home to exotic palms and verdant plants, not to mention a spectacular iron-framed Victorian glasshouse which recently underwent a £140,000 renovation. If you’ve a day in Glasgow to kill, make sure you add the People’s Palace to your itinerary.

Fabulous - This is a real gem, highlighting the people of Glasgow and their history. There is also a lovely winter garden, perfect for a cup of tea before or after viewing. We loved the Doulton Fountain which was just amazing as well as the gorgeous carpet factory building opposite.
