CAFES, BARS & CLUBS
A little different from your
average pub, the converted
church known as Slains Castle
is awash with Gothic splendour.
With a septet of cocktails known
as The Seven Deadly Sins,
you can indulge in your potion
of choice without incurring
too much guilt. Sit amongst
book-lined walls, chandeliers
and
unusually
ghoulish
ornamentation,
amongst
which you’ll find skeletons,
alchemists’
equipment,
gargoyles and suits of armour.
The decor shouldn’t put you off
your food though, so tuck into
one of their tasty dishes: you
can grab two meals for less
than a tenner, and two desserts
for the price of one afterwards.
Slain’s has an extensive drinks
menu to ensure that the night
proceeds at a canter, while
cosy armchairs set amidst
twinkling candles provide the
perfect setting for an evening
out with friends. The beer
garden outside was once
the graveyard of the church,
but even if it’s raining you
can enjoy a game of chess or
Othello. There’s a Monster Pub
Quiz held weekly, plus a variety
of special events celebrated
throughout the year – not least
Halloween, which is always a
scary affair in Slains Castle.
