FINE FOOD, FINE WINES,
FINE TIMES...
Amidst the bright lights of Glasgow’s theatreland
lies a bijou eatery known as La Bonne Auberge.
This Mediterranean brasserie, established over 30
years ago, has carved out a reputation for serving
inventive cuisine that’s attractively priced. Seasonal
produce is used in the creation of La Bonne
Auberge’s signature dishes, which combine French
flair with fresh ingredients that draw upon the riches
of Scotland’s natural larder. Scallops, Stornoway
black pudding and Scotch beef are turned into
moreish Mediterranean classics and steaks are a
speciality, with a grill menu packed with the finest
fillets, while fish dishes, including lemon sole, also
feature heavily. With the King’s, Theatre Royal and
Pavilion Theatre all close by, La Bonne Auberge is
the perfect spot in which to enjoy a meal with friends
before sampling some of the finest entertainment
the city has to offer. Experience good food, good
wine and good times in this charming brasserie.
SMITHS

Uddingston, G71 7BP

Smiths is a quirky bistro has been named Urban
Restaurant of the Year as well as overall Restaurant
of the Year. Chef-proprietor Michael Smith has
worked hard to create a winning formula at his cosy
Uddingston restaurant: deceptively simple bistro
cooking that lets top-end Scottish produce speak for
itself. Its French-leaning fixed-price menus certainly
seem to hit the right note with the dining public,
thanks to a popular two- or three-course dinner at
a fixed price. Dishes change with the seasons but
you might find a rustic chicken and pheasant terrine
served with apricot chutney among the starters;
a seared bass with chive butter or slow-cooked
feather blade of Scotch beef in red wine just to
follow. Puddings tend to be classics with an edge:
ginger crème brûlée and poached pear or vanilla
rice pudding with rhubarb compote. While it can be
difficult to entice diners away from central Glasgow,
Smiths more than warrants the short trip.
