ALBERT DOCK
Built by Jesse Hartley in 1846,
Albert Dock is as synonymous
with Liverpool as The Beatles
and Anfield. A UNESCO World
Heritage site, and home to the
largest collection of Grade I
listed buildings in the UK, the
waterfront site draws over two
million visitors each year. So
what’s the attraction? It’s difficult
to concisely sum up, but suffice
to say the area is at the forefront
of the city’s vibrant tourist trade.
Thronged with boutique shops,
bars, restaurants and cafes,
Albert Dock is also home to an
array of free visitor attractions,
including the award-winning
Tate Modern, the International
Slavery Museum and the
fascinating Merseyside Maritime
Museum. Fans of Liverpool’s
favourite sons should not miss
The Beatles Story, a unique
attraction that immerses visitors
in all things Beatles. Chart the
journey of the Fab Four as they
conquer America and become
the most influential band in
history. In the evening the
buildings on the dockside are
moodily lit up, making the area
perfect for a romantic stroll. If
you find it impossible to leave,
then don’t: two on-side hotels let
you soak up the ambiance for a
little longer. An integral part of the
city’s fabric for over 160 years,
Albert Dock deserves to be on
every Liverpool visitor’s itinerary.
