MUSEUM OF
LIVERPOOL
Liverpool is home to some
of the finest museums in the
UK, and none better than the
architecturally stunning Museum
of Liverpool. The world’s first
national museum dedicated to
the history of a regional city,
the attraction is bursting with
interesting artefacts and large-
scale interactive exhibits. Indeed,
it houses over 6,000 objects that
bring the city’s colourful history
to life. Located at Pier Head,
on the waterfront, the museum
is completely free to enter and
explore. Step onto the overhead
railway and inspect the stage
where John Lennon and Paul
McCartney first crossed paths,
or dive into Liverpool’s storied
sporting heritage. There are also
exhibits showcasing popular
culture through the ages, as
well as social, historical and
contemporary subjects. You
certainly won’t want to miss the
immersive 360º films about the
city’s crosstown football rivals,
Liverpool and Everton. Another
display pays tribute to the famous
musicians to come out of the city,
none bigger or more revered
than The Beatles. Elsewhere,
behold Ben Johnson’s Liverpool
Cityscape, created when the city
won European Capital of Culture
in 2008. The painting, which
took three years to complete, is
housed in the Skylight gallery.
After your eye-opening visit, why
not call by the ground-floor cafe
for a warm pastry and a freshly-
brewed coffee?
