ARTS, CULTURE & TOURISM
ULSTER MUSEUM
If you’re keen to learn a little
more about Irish history,
Belfast’s Ulster Museum is
the place to go. Home to a
diverse collection of artefacts
spanning the worlds of art,
history and natural sciences,
the museum places a strong
focus on the history of Northern
Ireland, tracing the journey
of its people from earliest
times to the modern day.
The museum is also home
to three interactive discovery
centres. While the Discover Art
centre promises games and
puzzles, the Discover Nature
centre lets you handle fossils,
shells and gemstones – and
even see a real dinosaur egg.
There’s also an opportunity
to examine exotic butterflies
and beetles under the glare
of the microscope. The third
interactive zone is Discover
History. Here, you can delve
deeper into the past, gaining a
keen insight into the processes
of archaeology and learning
more about world culture.
Rebuild pots and skulls, find
out how our homes have
changed through the years
and dress up in full Victorian
garb. Elsewhere, there are
impressive galleries, an Ancient
Egyptian Mummy and a Viking
display. You’ll be captivated
by this eclectic child-friendly
museum with free entry.
