CAFES, BARS & CLUBS
The Dirty Onion might be the
most unusual bar in Belfast.
Housed in one of the city’s
oldest buildings, and recently
repackaged as a traditional
public house, the bar promises
a unique experience every
time you cross the threshold.
While the site was constructed
in the 1750s, originally as a
warehouse, today the bustling
space has a much more
cosmopolitan feel. It comprises
a beer garden and indoor
lounge, as well as an upstairs
restaurant the Yardbird, which
styles itself as a ‘free-range
rotisserie chicken restaurant’.
Low ceilings supported by
exposed wooden beams give
a sense of the bar’s history,
while the original brick walls
lend the place a certain rustic
charm. The entertainment on
offer, meanwhile, is extensive
to say the least. Thanks to its
partnership with the award-
winning cultural centre An
Droichead, The Dirty Onion
showcases live music every
night. From traditional Irish folk
acts to bluegrass musicians,
The Dirty Onion is a veritable
hub of culture. Drop in for a
craft beer or glass of wine
and let those pitch perfect
harmonies wash over you.
