The Gwaelod-y-Garth Inn lies just outside Cardiff
and specialises in good honest food coupled with
real ales. Its restaurant seats up to 60 diners and
a separate room seating 20 is available for private
functions. Limited seating is also available
in the downstairs bar. Main courses include a
roasted rack of Welsh lamb with herb crumb and
rich red wine sauce. The tournedos rossini also
comes highly recommended; it’s an 8oz 21-day
matured fillet steak topped with pate and finished
with madeira sauce. The highlights just keep
coming on The Gwaelod’s masterful menu with
roasted Gressingham duck breast with kumquat
and cassis sauce. For those who prefer meat to
seafood, the grilled sea bass fillets with braised
fennel and olive oil should prove just the ticket.
Operated by husband and wife team Richie and
Barbara, this rural pub and restaurant is well worth
the short drive from Cardiff city centre.
