The Kelpies, The Helix
Falkirk, FK2 7ZT
At over 30 metres tall and weighing over 300
tonnes each, The Kelpies are hard to miss.
These incredible equine structures dominate the
surrounding area and impose a sense of awe in
all who gaze up at them. The best way to find
all the answers and to admire these magnificent
specimens in the flesh – or rather in the steel
– is by embarking on The Kelpies Experience
Tour. The highlight of the tour, naturally, is the
opportunity to step inside a Kelpie and to see
the world from behind their eyes. Assembled
in late 2013, The Kelpies are a genuine feat of
engineering, assembled in just 90 days. The
project was commissioned by Scottish Canals,
Andy Scott then turned this vision into reality,
designing these colossal structures as a tribute to
the heavy horses who did the grunt work in the
early days of Scottish industry.

Britain’s highest and largest mountain range, the
Cairngorms is home to some truly spectacular
scenery. Native forests, clear rivers and lochs bisect
rolling moorland that’s host to an array of plant and
animal life. Situated in the heart of the Scottish
Highlands is a sprawling expanse of unspoiled
land that attracts hikers, bikers and other outdoor
types. Three of Scotland’s five ski centres are
located within the park. These enjoy action all the
year round, for skiing and snowboarding during the
winter months, while in the summer the lofty peaks
attract mountain bikers and walkers. If you’ve ever
fancied ‘bagging’ a few Munros, this is the place to
start. A series of high and low ground walking trails
criss-cross the Cairngorms, with hiking expeditions
available to suit walkers of all abilities. Finally, with
its clean rivers, the Cairngorms is renowned for
fishing and watersports including kayaking, sailing
and windsurfing.
