JAMES PRINGLE
WEAVERS
19/21 Bridge Street, Inverness, IV1 1HG
01463 236517
Established in 1789, the James
Pringle brand combines great
detailing and design with
timeless quality in knitwear,
leisurewear and accessories.
Today, this working weavers
and weaving exhibition allows
visitors an opportunity to
discover the fascinating story
behind tartan and how it
became associated with the
great clans of Scotland. Follow
the story as it unfolds, from the
early days of regional tartan
to the bolder, brighter, modern
varieties of the cloth we know
today. With working weaving
equipment on site it’s possible
to see exactly how this world-
renowned fabric is constructed,
as the fascinating intricacies of
the distinctive textile are laid
bare. After a good tour of the
mill, the best way to unwind
is at the cafe, with tea and a
scone or perhaps a timeless
soup and sandwich combo.
More substantive fare is also
on offer, while ample parking
outside ensures coach parties
will find it a handy place to
stop and recharge everyone’s
batteries. It would be fair to say
that no trip to James Pringle is
complete without a visit to the
gift shop, where an astonishing
range of tartan souvenirs are
on offer.
