If you’ve ever pondered, while
necking a beer, the path it took
from barley to bar, it’s time you
visited the excellent Black Isle
Brewery. Set in the stunning
Highland environs of Ross-
shire, near Inverness, this
established organic brewery
has been lauded for the high
quality of its malting barley.
Drop by to learn how the
company started off ‘brewing
in a bucket in a shed’ in 1998,
before growing exponentially,
brewing up to 10,000 litres a
day and packing the good stuff
into bottles, casks and kegs.
You’ll be guided along the
way by the team’s enthusiastic
and gregarious staff, who are
only too happy to explain why
chemical-free is the best way
to go when it comes to brewing
beer. Perhaps the best part of
the tour is the finale, where
you get the opportunity to
sample the final product. If a
taste isn’t enough, a full range
of beers, seasonal specials,
local produce and Black Isle
merchandise
adorns
the
shelves in the brewery shop.
Open Monday to Saturday all
year round, and on Sundays
from Easter to September, the
Black Isle Brewery makes for
an excellent day out.
