HIGHLAND HOUSE
OF FRASER
4-9 Huntly Street, Inverness, IV35PR
01463 222781
Highland House of Fraser
is one of those family-run
businesses which welcomes
visitors with a warm and
genuinely cordial greeting.
For 50 years, the company
has been making traditional
Highland dress, employing
skilled men and women whose
years of experience go into
crafting these magnificent
garments. Whether you are
looking to rent or buy, you’ll
find the same impeccable level
of service. For those curious
about
the
manufacturing
process, the store’s Scottish
Kiltmaker Visitor Centre has
all the answers. Here, you can
visit the workshop where the
tartan takes shape and form,
gradually transforming into
the distinctive Highland dress.
Such essential questions such
as ‘How much cloth is needed
to make a kilt?’ and ‘What’s the
perfect length for my kilt?’ will
be answered, though you may
find the staff more coy when
asked ‘...and what does a true
Scotsman wear under it?’ The
garments to be found here
are the genuine article; all of
Highland House of Fraser’s kilts
are made to strict traditional
methods and painstakingly
stitched by hand. Traditional
handcraft styles include The
Chieftain, The Clansman and
The Lovat, while modern styles
using less fabric include The
Hillwalker and The Economy’.
