CAFES, BARS & CLUBS
St Peters Church, Seel Street
Liverpool, L1 4BH

Set inside a grand converted
Catholic church, Alma De Cuba
throws together an eclectic mix
of Cuban, Hispanic and Latin
American influences to create
an island in the heart of the city.
Located on Seel Street, this trendy
restaurant and bar does a roaring
trade right through the week. It’s
the perfect place to grab ‘Sunday
Service’ brunch while listening to
a live gospel choir, but doubles as
an effervescent nightspot whose
dance floor shakes like a rumba
at the weekend. In what other
venue can you can hang out with
Brazilian dancers, sip a well-made
cocktail and listen to the strains
of Latin music? Live bands take
up residence every Tuesday and
Thursday evening from 7:30pm,
while samba dancers invade the
floor on Fridays and Saturdays
from 11pm. Should you wish
to experience the venue in the
cold light of day, why not pop in
for lunch or dinner? The award-
winning menu serves everything
from Las Don Gambas to pea
risotto, jerk chicken and authentic
paella. Spanish, Caribbean and
Latin American flavours feature
heavily, while the service is always
friendly. The aforementioned
Sunday brunch also deserves to
be sampled, with the full Cuban
breakfast forming the perfect
hangover cure.
