Expect a warm welcome and great food served by
friendly waiters at Gee’s Restaurant. The interior is
filled with trees and plants while the kitchen features
a wood fire oven and charcoal grill. Ingredients are
simply prepared and expertly cooked. Open all
day, every day, the British restaurant also serves
morning coffee, weekend brunch, express lunch,
dishes for sharing and Sunday roasts. Alternatively,
feel welcome to just drop by for a glass or two. An
all-day menu is best described as Mediterranean,
with dishes simply prepared and expertly cooked,
all centred around the wood fire oven and charcoal
grill. The wine list is a considered mix of Old World
and new, the cocktails seasonal and skilfully
prepared. A seasonal fixed price menu is served
12pm - 6pm Monday to Friday while weekend
brunch is served 10am - 11:45am and on Sunday
roasts are served from noon. The timber, glass,
ornamental ironwork and gaily tiled floor of Gee’s
appear as fresh and elegant as they must have
looked when the architect H W Moore completed
this handsome conservatory building, once a plant
and agricultural shop, in 1898. The restaurant
boasts a new look, the result of some half a million
pounds spent on it by owner Jeremy Mogford, who
bought the building in 1984, thereby saving it for
future generations. Three large olive trees and two
lemon trees play a central role in the decor, with a
‘wall’ of rosemary dividing the two eating areas. To
start, try the olives with manchego and rosemary or
the roast pumpkin and sage soup followed by plaice
with roasted fennel, samphire and green sauce.
For dessert, the chocolate and hazelnut pot is a
sensation to savour with every mouthful, washed
down with a Martin Miller’s gin and tonic or a fizzy
glass of prosecco.
