La Bandera is one of Manchester’s newest and quirkiest Spanish restaurants. Meaning ‘The Flag’, La Bandera is an inviting space characterised by a sleek laminate floor, yellow leather booths and an abundance of modern lighting housed in drum-like red shades. If you’re keen to sample authentic Spanish cuisine and lots of it, you’ve come to the right place. An enticing array of tapas dishes are available, featuring everything from Pulpo a la Gallega (that’s octopus) to Fabada Asturiana (white bean chorizo stew). Mains, for their part, include Carilleras de Ternera (slowcooked ox cheeks) and papas arrugados con mojo (salted potatoes twinned with a special sauce from the Canary Islands). The restaurant’s head chef, incidentally, is the acclaimed Spaniard Josetxo Arrieta. Having previously worked in Michelin starred restaurants, he’s more than familiar with the exacting standards that fine diners expect – and his traditional Iberian cuisine has proved a hit with the city’s foodies since La Bandera opened in 2014. As well as a 50-cover restaurant, the venue boasts a 30-seater bar. Relax with a glass of Spanish wine before venturing to your table, stopping to cradle the guitar on display if you’re of a musical bent. For a real taste of Spain, head to La Bandera.

I ordered takeaway tapas for my boyfriends lockdown birthday and it did not disappoint! Food was very tasty and good size portions on most, although I would say chorizo and steak portions could have been a little bigger. Overall we were very impressed and will definitely be making another order, can’t wait to go back to the restaurant in person!
Amazing food. Fantastic service, helpful and friendly staff. I would highly recommend this place.
