Cider drinkers rejoice – The Apple is here. Located on the waterfront by Welshback, The Apple is a converted barge that predominantly serves cider and perry. A superb range of quality brands are on offer, including numerous traditional craft ciders sourced from local artisan producers. If you want to try something of the area, the Old Bristolian is a fine choice – but at 8.4%, it’s certainly not for the timid. Whether you like still cider, sweet, apple, pear, sparkling or strawberry, you’re sure to find a tipple to tickle your fancy. Audacious offerings even include cider-based cocktails and cider sangria. Don’t fret if cider isn’t your thing though: a selection of bottled beers are available too. There are bars both inside the boat and outside – one on the bottom deck, and another by the harbourside. Take your cider (or beer) to the top level, which stays warm year-round thanks to the presence of patio heaters, and enjoy a fine view of the water. In the evening, the fairy lights strung along the perimeter impart a warm and magical vibe. The dockside tables, meanwhile, create the perfect spot for some al fresco drinking, particularly during the summer months when The Apple truly comes into its own.
