Lasan Restaurant

Since launching in 2002, Lasan has established itself as one of Birmingham’s finest Indian restaurants. Indeed, the plaudits are a matter of record. Having won Great British Menu in 2011, it was also recently included on The Sunday Times rundown of the UK’s top restaurants. The venue, led by head chef Aktar Islam, delivers exquisite cuisine that stirs the senses and stokes the soul, delivering the spiced essence of India. Lasan’s interior integrates old-world allure and a modern style, with ornate, gilt-edged mirrors, sitars and sleek statues of Hindu gods. A+ for the decor, then; but what about the food? The accolades may be a giveaway, but suffice to say it’s first-rate. Whether you opt to select dishes from the regular menu, or enjoy the Banquet menu, you’re sure to be impressed. The latter is designed for sharing, with all dishes presented across the table for diners to enjoy. Favourites include an amuse bouche of a neat pastry shell containing chickpeas and tamarind, and the burrah kebab, hung beef marinated in cumin and papaya and cooked in the tandoor. The banquet feast is served, of course, with a basket of assorted naan breads, with diners free to share such delights as keema mutter, dhaba murgh and subzi jalfrezi. Tuck in.
