The Edinburgh Dungeon

The scariest attraction to be found in the city, The Edinburgh Dungeon is replete with terrifyingly convincing actors, macabre artefacts and ghoulish rides that will raise the heckles and set the adrenaline pumping. The Dungeon combines history with special effects to bring Scotland's dark past to life and includes exhibits dating back to the 17th Century. 11 actor-driven shows, led by some of Scotland’s finest thespians, will have you laughing, screaming and clutching onto your friends for support. Learn the secrets of the torture chamber of the Royal Mile Jail, come face-to-face with notorious grave-robbers Burke & Hare and discover the unpredictable and lethal justice system that was part and parcel of life in Edinburgh three centuries ago. Get your teeth into the tale of cannibal Sawney Bean, witness the devastation of the plague in the morbid Street of Sorrows and watch out for spectres flitting through 1715 Old Craig House. No need to be alarmed – it’ll just be the Green Lady, trying to find peace for her restless soul. Test your nerves on the Drop Ride to Doom and enter the haunted labyrinth, a dark and terrifying maze that stretches beneath the Royal Mile. Graveyards and caves; torture chambers and burial mounds – the stench of death and the shrieks of the dying are never far away as you roam The Edinburgh Dungeon. Located in the very heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, The Edinburgh Dungeon delivers the perfect combination of chills and thrills; you’ll experience the full gamut of emotions before emerging, smiling, into the daylight. Whether you're interested in the gruesome history of Scotland's spookiest city or are simply looking for an unusual day out, The Edinburgh Dungeon will leave you elated and enlightened following the most chilling history lesson you'll ever experience.

Brilliant place, great fun, great history, had a laugh and even my hard to please teenage sons enjoyed it, even though they were picked out by the judge to be tried along with Deacon Brodie.
