Peckham’s is a unique Scottish delicatessen chain, or ‘vintner & victualer’ as they like to dub themselves. Upon their inception, almost 30 years ago, the company’s aim was to sell a wide range of quality foods, many of which were hard to source in this country. While achieving this objective, they also vowed to remain open late every night like a proper convenience store, one that everyone in the neighbourhood would value. Since then, a sprinkling of Peckham’s stores have sprung up across the country as proof of the deli’s success. Its West End outlet, on Glasgow’s Byres Road, sells a staggering range of all things eatable and drinkable Continental meats, cheeses, breads, pates and sauces; all can be found lurking within Peckham’s capacious deli fridge. Then there’s the fine wines, malt whiskies, cocktails spirits, real ales and ciders to inspect. Ten minutes perusing the alcohol section in Peckham’s is enough to give anyone a thirst. If it tastes, looks or smells nice, the chances are that Peckham’s will have it, somewhere inside their towering emporium of food.
