The Scotia Bar

The Scotia Bar is a name that might not mean much to first-time visitors to Glasgow, but mention the name to any of the city’s residents and they’ll swiftly point you in the right direction. Astonishingly, the bar has been trading for over 200 years now; needless to say it is not short of character. The décor- like most things in The Scotia –is of the traditional olde world variety. This means lots of dark panelling, polished taps and exposed beams. Anyone with an interest in Glasgow’s history is urged to visit this legendary bar – the stories it has heard, and continues to hear, are utterly fascinating and occasionally scurrilous. With the story of The Scotia Bar comes the story of Scotland’s shipbuilding and merchant navy industries. Live music is provided four nights a week, with a selection of rock, country, blues and folk bands bringing the party atmosphere. Home cooked pub food and a wide selection of quality beers and ales quench thirsts and keep the stories coming within The Scotia Bar. The pub has received Cask Marque accreditation, an endorsement of the scrupulously high standards it sets in its quest to pour the perfect pint, a worthy objective if ever there was one. The Scotia has also been named as one of Britain’s top 100 bars. While there may be newer and trendier bars out there, few can match the charm and banter to be found in this revered Glasgow establishment. On any given night, an array of casual drinkers can be found mingling with the bars more seasoned regulars, given to philosophising and entertaining with their unique brand of humour. Over the years a number of more famous characters have also held court at The Scotia, including Billy Connolly and John Martyn

Thursday night at the Scotia is a must do if you are in Glasgow. . The songs, led by Tommy and Jimmy are wonderful. . Just do it's a favour..... Shut up when they are singing... It's just good manners.
