The Bluecoat is Liverpool’s creative hub. It’s a place where bright minds come to exercise their intellectual curiosity and fuel their creativity. It’s a centre of excellence where the North West’s finest visual arts, music, dance and literary talents showcase their skills. The oldest Grade 1 listed building in Liverpool, The Bluecoat reopened to the public in 2008 following a £14.5 million redevelopment. It’s a soothing, inspiring place; one where a steady procession of visitors can find everything from artisan coffee to bespoke gifts. A handful of independent retailers hold shop in the courtyard and garden, while Upstairs at Bluecoat sees seasonal produce artfully served with a fine selection of wine. There’s also a children’s menu, because everyone is welcome at the city’s premier creative space. Pop in on a typical week and you’ll find a handful of eclectic exhibitions livening up the centre; expect everything from contemporary art to cutting-edge design to be championed. With an in-house print studio, The Bluecoat doesn’t just exhibit art: it also creates it, with a screenprint and etching studio granting experienced printmakers a chance to share their latest creations with the public.
