Founded in 1895, Abbeydale Golf Club boasts an enviable position on the South West side of Sheffield. Bordering the Peak District National Park and the village of Dore, the parkland course is renowned for its beautifully manicured appearance, undulating greens and magnificent surroundings within the Beauchief Estate. The course was designed by famous architect Herbert Fowler, who is also renowned for other designs including Walton Heath and The Berkshire. Fowler's design ethos of strategy and reward are apparent in the layout of the Abbeydale. The golf club welcomes members, visitors, societies and corporate groups. Abbeydale’s Golf Manager and Hospitality Manager will ensure that whatever your visit is for, you’ll receive a personal and rewarding service. The club’s origins can be traced back to a meeting of like-minded local business and professional men held in the Devonshire Arms pub at Dore in July 1895. This led to the formation of a new golf club in the area. A move to a new site at the dawn of the 20th century saw the club’s name changed to Abbeydale and the adoption of an illustration of the Abbey as its motif which is still used today. Initially, the course was just nine holes varying in length from 130 to 520 yards long. Golfers used the nearby Abbeydale Hotel (now the Beauchief Hotel) for a clubhouse facility and a railway shed made a useful locker room. In 1906 a wooden clubhouse was erected in the grounds of where the Beauchief Hotel is now a base for Abbeydale members. Today, the superb quality of Abbeydale’s greens is praised by all who play it. Look out your clubs and come see for yourself. The parkland golf course is the perfect setting in which to enjoy an unhurried round.

Great golf course. Greens deceptive and fast. Well looked after too. Look forward to playing again.
