Volks is an unpretentious nightclub that really is all about the music. Located along the Brighton seafront, it has been leading the way in underground club nights for two decades. Every Monday it’s Strictly Reggae, with DJs on rotation playing the latest and best dancehall, bashment, roots and revival. Keep an eye on the listings, but if you like drum and bass, jungle, trance, dubstep, funk, hip-hop and all iterations of electronic music, this is the place to get your groove on. The club nights are varied and always result in a boisterous but good-natured atmosphere. Volks also hosts live bands, and their portable stage means no two gigs are exactly the same – you’re guaranteed a slightly different vibe each time you come along. Open during the daytime in summer, Volks relies on its beachfront to impart a holiday-type vibe with its outdoor seating area. Slurp on a cold jug of Pimms or relax with a freshly-ground cappuccino as you inhale the sea air. When hunger sets in, pore over the full menu which offers everything from free-range breakfasts to gourmet burgers and fresh mixed-leaf salads. If you’re a musically-motivated clubber, Volks should be right up your alley.
