The Gwaelod-y-Garth Inn (or just The Gwaelod as the locals call it) is one of South Wales’ premier country inns just a few miles outside Cardiff. It offers a relaxing mix of real ales, home-cooked food and convivial company. Since being taken over by new management, it has re-established its rightful place in the heart of the community. The pub now has an on-site brewery in Violet Cottage Brewery or “The Brew with a View” as it’s also known. It produces a selection of beers which are proving extremely popular with the locals. Whether you are looking for somewhere for a quick pint after work, a quiet meal or a family celebration, The Gwaelod is the perfect pub for the occasion. Meaning ‘foot of the mountain’ (Gwaelod-y-Garth), The Gwaelod Inn was originally part of the Marquess of Bute’s estate and it was recently nominated as having some of the best pub views in the country. It is a much favoured watering hole for ramblers, cyclists and hang-gliders as well as some colourful locals. The Gwaelod-y-Garth Inn is situated on the Taff-Ely Ridgeway Path.
