Whitchurch Golf Club

Whitchurch Golf Club lies four miles north of the city of Cardiff and is situated on elevated ground overlooking the city, with Penarth Head prominently visible and the Somerset Coast and Bristol Channel completing a grand panorama. The course is sheltered from the north by the Wenallt Hills and guarding these hills stands Castell Coch, a 13th century-style edifice, reconstructed into a fantastical folly. This forms a picturesque setting at all times of the year. The Golf Club was founded in 1914 and has developed into a fine parkland course which is rightly noted for its testing Par 3 and Par 4 holes. The amateur course record is 63, with the professional record held by Ian Woosnam with 62. In 2005, 2006 and 2008 the club won the award for the best golf club in Wales in Bloom and was voted by Welsh Club Golfer as being “the best inland golf course in Wales”. During World War II, a part of the course was used to grow vegetables. Whether you’re planning a leisurely round of golf or a birthday celebration at the clubhouse, Whitchurch Golf Club forms an idyllic setting.

An excellent golf course with lush green fairways and fast well maintained greens. Quite a tricky course for a high handicapper like me but enjoyable all the same. The staff in the pro shop and bar are polite and friendly and the location just off the A470 makes it relatively easy to find.
