This council-run music venue and arts centre is something of a local institution. For as long as anyone can remember, The Lemon Tree has been the place to catch Aberdeen’s emerging live talent as well as seasoned performers from much further afield. Blues, jazz, soul and indie are just some of the sounds to be heard emanating from the venue on any given day of the week. A state-of-the-art sound system has earned The Lemon Tree a place in the hearts of every band that’s had the privilege of performing here. The pillar of the city’s alternative music scene, The Lemon Tree has hosted such acts as Finch, Brand New, Therapy and Amen over the years. It’s not averse to putting on the odd tribute act either; the LA Doors and AC/DC cover band Hells Bells are also regular fixtures. It’s not all about live music though – stand-up comedy, panto and spoken word are all part of the Tree’s eclectic line-up; Sarah Millican and Craig Campbell are among the luminaries to have graced the stage and raised the roof. The 550-capacity venue, one of the largest in Aberdeen, is equipped with a lounge bar that’s well-stocked with offerings from BrewDog and Belhaven.
