Jinty McGuintys

JintyMcGuinty’s is undoubtedly one of the West End’s most popular watering holes. A staple of Ashton Lane pub crawls for over two decades, the charming, bustling wee Irish bar is traditionally furnished and typically overflowing with conviviality. Though it’s somewhat cramped, there’s always a barrel, shelf or shoulder to lean on, and the friendly hubbub that envelops patrons the moment they cross the threshold is enough to ignite even the coldest of hearts. Despite its fairly modest dimensions, the mahogany-panelled pub throws its support behind local talent and promotes live music sessions six nights of the week. If you prefer a more sedate atmosphere though, rock up on a Sunday and enjoy a (possibly) tranquil pint in one of the cosy booths near the traditional stone fireplace. Should the sun makes its annual appearance, you can of course head outdoors to the terrace: Jinty’s has one of the very best beer gardens in the Lane, and thanks to a multitude of patio heaters – not to mention an enviable selection of mulled ciders served during the festival season – you can enjoy an al fresco drink on the patio even in the winter months. The bar staff at Jinty’salways make you feel like a long-lost pal, and the pub is a popular spot for topers indulging in that most frenzied of Glasgow pastimes – the Sub Crawl. For the uninitiated, this is a pub crawl whose itinerary is mapped according to the circular route of the city’s subway. It really is hard to believe that Jinty’s started life as a restaurant, so well-suited is it to the conversational sparring sessions for which pubs are conducive. Named Sunday Mail Pub of the Year in 2015, Jinty’s pretty much guarantees you a grand night.

Just the same as before really. Friendly bar staff and not as dear as the rest of Ashton Lane. Fairly weird having no cash machine, but no big deal. Fairly good Guinness as well.

Iconic Irish bar on Ashton Lane with live music and plenty of atmosphere. Perfect beer garden for sunny days!
