The Silver Darling

Aberdeen’s relationship with the sea goes back centuries. For as long as the fishing boats have been coming ashore, the city has enjoyed some of the freshest, finest seafood Scotland has to offer. The Silver Darling is the embodiment of Aberdeen’s unbreakable bond with the sea. Situated on the cusp of the harbour, where the coastguard tower looms and the ferries depart, the restaurant’s views are as exquisite as its cuisine. When night falls, diners can gaze out across the North Sea, illuminated by the winking lights of the supply vessels berthed offshore. The fish restaurant is the brainchild of Didier Dejean. The Frenchman draws upon the many riches to be found in Scotland’s waters, infusing them with Mediterranean nous. Named after the Scottish term for herring, The Silver Darling has been consistently praised for its inventive fare and has been listed in the Good Food Guide for over two decades. Starters are made using North Sea crab, pan-fried king scallops and fresh rock oysters. Paired with homemade pasta, caviar sauce and dill and fennel butter sauce, they are transformed into toothsome dishes that are bursting with flavour. A fine selection of wines provides the perfect accompaniment to the rich French fare. On a warm summer’s evening, there’s no better dining spot in Aberdeen.

Used a Groupon voucher for a 3 course evening meal for our anniversary. The food was delicious and the fish cooked beautifully. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Our first visit here but it definitely won't be our last.
